Madeline Adams is an artist currently living and creating in Nashville. Working full time as a museum educator, Adams is able to continue to create artwork inspired by the world around her. Her paintings and works on paper are abstract, layers, illusion, conversations with color, and full of questions.
In the natural world, moments of repetition become the observed starting points. Examples of these are the grid of windows on a building, shadows on the ground, a line of traffic lights down a dark road, groupings of pastries in a bakery window, or even the whispers of conversations in a crowded room. The artwork becomes the dialogue between little details and larger elements. Although most marks are deliberate, mistakes occur and are gladly welcomed. Using color and layering, details are either blurred or pronounced – intentionally concealing or revealing unsuspected moments. Once these images leave the studio, they are caught up in the complex relationship and conversation of viewer to image, and vice versa.
